McLaughlin, James Papers
These papers are on microfilm and can be borrowed.
Roll 7 contains Fee patents for Santee and Sisseton/ Wahpetons.
Roll 28 contains names of individuals from the above tribes.
It is clear by his papers he was working on the S & W roll at the same time he was with the Santee. There are letters from individuals trying to get in on the 1909 (I think that is the date) payment.
He complains in one letter about the people who received the patents were cheated out of their land , or squandered their money. One of a few he mentions is Sam Adams from Veblen, SD who spent it entertaining at a church gathering.
